About Eyl
Eyl is an ancient port town in the northeastern Nugal region of Somalia in the autonomous Puntland region, also serving as the capital of the Eyl District. Eyl, also called Illig, temporarily became a government-in-exile haven for the Dervish State between 1905 and 1908. Thereafter, the Dervish state once again returned to its capital at Taleh, thus making the latter half of the 1900s decade a period of relative amicability between the Dervish state and surrounding colonial powers. Eyl is best known as the terminus and mouth of the seasonal and intermittent Nugaal river.
